Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to unveil a new version of its original product, the Mac, on Monday night.
The “Scary Fast” event, taking place the day before Halloween and the same week it will report earnings, will likely include refreshed MacBook Pro laptops and iMac desktops with Apple’s (AAPL) first M3 3-nanometer processors, Bloomberg reported.
Those chips are expected to be an improvement in terms of power and performance over last year’s M2 line.
Worldwide personal computing device shipments declined nearly 20% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2023, totaling 89.4M units, according to IDC. It was the sixth consecutive quarter of contraction brought on by macroeconomic headwinds, weak demand from both the consumer and commercial sectors, and a shift in IT budgets away from device purchases. However, sales are expected to begin increasing next year.
Apple’s (AAPL) Macs are facing increased competition for performance power after Qualcomm recently announced its own CPU and Nvidia (NVDA) is reportedly working on Arm-based CPUs of its own.
The company unveiled MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips earlier this year and released its first 15-inch MacBook Air and faster Mac Studio models, as well as its first Mac Pro that uses the company’s home-grown chips.
Macs represent about 10% of Apple’s (AAPL) yearly revenue.
The Tim Cook-led company is slated to report fourth-quarter results on November 2. A consensus of analysts estimate that the company will earn $1.39 per share on $89.31B in revenue.
