Canada retail sales fall 0.1% M/M in August

Retail sales in Canada decreased 0.10% in August over the previous month. Retail sales in Canada are expected to have remained unchanged in September, according to preliminary estimates.

August’s retail turnover was particularly hampered by port strikes in British Columbia, with approximately 12% of surveyors reporting lower business activity because of issues with supply chain logistics from the strikes.

On a yearly basis, retail sales increased 1.6% in August, following an upwardly revised 2.1% increase in the prior month.
