Early in-person voting will begin Saturday, June 17, at select vote centers for the June 27 runoff election in Los Angeles City Council District 6 to determine who will replace former Councilmember Nury Martinez.
The two candidates facing off are Imelda Padilla, whose background is in community organizing, and Marisa Alcaraz, a deputy chief of staff to Councilmember Curren Price.
District 6 is in the San Fernando Valley and includes the neighborhoods of Arleta, Lake Balboa, North Hills, North Hollywood, Panorama City, Sun Valley and Van Nuys.
Registered voters in the district should have received a vote-by-mail ballot by now, which must be postmarked by June 27 to be counted. Voters can also vote in person or drop off their completed ballot at a vote center.
Some vote centers will open starting Saturday, with additional sites opening on Election Day.
Voters may also drop off their ballots at any ballot drop box in the district through Election Day.

Eligible District 6 residents who missed the voter registration deadline can still cast a ballot at a vote center.
Former Councilmember Martinez resigned in October after she was caught making racist comments during a private meeting with two other current or former councilmembers and a labor leader to discuss redistricting strategies. The 2021 conversation was secretly recorded and made public a year later.
Since Martinez’ resignation, the district has been overseen by a caretaker who does not vote on Los Angeles City Council matters.
