The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) at the start of this decade might be one of the biggest advances in technology over the last 50 years – or at least, that’s what investors certainly seem to think.
Bespoke Investment Group on Saturday highlighted that since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT less than two years ago, the tech-focused Nasdaq 100 (NDX) has gained more in over 400 days than in the aftermath of any other major technological release of the last half-century.
OpenAI revealed ChatGPT to the world on November 30, 2022 – a date which is now seen as a watershed event in terms of introducing the power of AI and its capabilities.
Since that eventful November day, the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) has advanced 69.01% from 12,030.06 points to 20,331.49 points.
According to Bespoke data, that’s a bigger jump than the index’s performance in the same period after the following technological events:
- The release of Microsoft (MSFT) DOS on August 12, 1981.
- The launch of AOL on February 28, 1991.
- The announcement of Netscape’s web browser on December 19, 1994.
- The first version of Apple’s (AAPL) iPod on November 10, 2001.
- The introduction of MySpace on August 1, 2003.
- The first Apple (AAPL) iPhone on January 9, 2007.
