Santa Anita Park cancels New Year’s Day program due to soaking by rainstorm

Heavy overnight rains has forced the soaked Santa Anita Park to cancel its New Year’s Day racing program today, Jan. 1.

Among the races that were cancelled is the park’s annual and highly popular Corgi Winter Nationals, dubbed the “cutest Corgis in Southern California.” This race of the beloved short-legged dogs had been set for Santa Anita’s infield on Sunday. So Cal Corgi Nation is assuring the public that the race has been rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 19.

The park’s racing is scheduled to resume Monday, Jan. 2, with 10 races, including the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes slated for the hillside course, according to the Daily Racing Form. First post is at noon.

The Grade 3 Santa Ynez Stakes will be postponed to Jan. 8 for the 3-year-old fillies.
