A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was shot in Lake Elsinore on Friday afternoon, Jan. 13, the department said.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the deputy, who was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center.

The suspect was in custody, the department said.

There was a large law enforcement presence where the deputy was shot in the 18500 block of Hilldale Lane, in a community of single family homes.

No other details of the shooting were available.

The shooting comes one week after a memorial service for slain Deputy Isaiah Cordero, who was shot to death on Dec. 29 during a traffic stop in Jurupa Valley. Cordero was the department’s first deputy to die in the line of duty from an assault since 2003.
