‘Succession’ Leads 2023 Emmy Nominations: See the Complete List

Must read

The nominations for the 75th Emmy Awards have officially been announced, though they come at an awkward time in Hollywood.

Television Academy Chair Frank Scherma took to a live ceremony streamed on YouTube to reveal the 2023 nominees, with Emmy-nominated actress Yvette Nicole Brown.

Succession fans have reason to cheer, as the show received a nomination in the category of Outstanding Drama Series, and several cast members (Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong) also got nods in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series as well as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Sarah Snook).

Overall, the HBO hit drama scored 27 nominations across all categories—two more than last year. But it didn’t end for the network there, as it dominated the Outstanding Drama Series category, scoring four nominations—the first such  since 1992. Alongside Succession, video game adaption The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, and the second season of The White Lotus were all nominated.

Apple TV+ also made history with its 54 nominations, including for Ted Lasso — the most Emmy-nominated comedy for the third consecutive year, per the streamer. STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie also dominates the documentary film or docuseries category.

Though various networks may be rejoicing, the entire event stands lugubrious in the looming shadow of the writers strike, which has just crossed the two-month mark.

In addition to this, SAG-AFTRA—which represents roughly 160,000 actors—has been constructing picket signs, ready to join the WGA on the picket lines as its midnight deadline approaches. As of Wednesday morning, Guild members were gathering outside of the Netflix building on Van Ness Ave.

Welcome to the #WGAstrike picket, pal! LA #sagaftramembers, show your #SAGAFTRAstrong solidarity and join us today, 7/12!

Negotiations are still ongoing with major Hollywood Studios, but the deadline was officially pushed back to Wednesday, July 12.

The union cites “economic fairness, residuals, regulating the use of artificial intelligence and alleviating the burdens of the industry-wide shift to self-taping” as issues that have caused a delay in talks.

The Emmys are currently scheduled for Monday, September 18, to be broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
